Hello everyone,
If any of you have seen my other questions you know my dream is to attend Princeton University. I know it is a reach but I just want to prove people wrong. The other day a representative from Yale University came to my high school and talked about Yale and all of its advantages. The representative made Yale seem even more accessible than it seems. I mean I know it is still really hard to get into, but now I feel like I have more of a chance. Here are a few of my stats....GPA: 3.77, rank: 45/623(Top 10%), Clubs: National Honor Society, Athletic Trainer, Student Council ( where I am also an officer), All of my core classes are AP and I have 1 honors class which is Spanish 3, I have many hours of community service( I don't know the hours right off hand, but they are documented), I have taken one colleege course( I will be taking more in the summer). I also plan on taking my SAT in may, so those scores are pending. The Yale representative also mentioned essays, saying the essays are a really big part of admissions. So honest opinions do I even have a valid shot at Princeton or Yale? One more thing, will being an African-American help or damage my chances? All answers and opinions will be great! :) Thanks!

I think you have a shot. Just have an english teacher help you write you admissions essay. Being african american is not going to damage your chance. Ivy leagues look for diversity. And study like crazy for you SAT and I highly suggest taking it more than once!
Don't listen to that person above him. You can get loans that help you pay for school. No one can afford that much a year!
I think you have a shot, but it is hard to know for certain if you will get in. If it is your dream, I would apply to Princeton. If you are able to and you like the school, I would also apply to Yale. What my college counselor told me is that you should only apply to reach schools if your self-esteem will be okay if you don't get in. I would totally go for your dream but don't be too disappointed if you don't get in. It is not a reflection on you but rather on their applicant pool and the limited number of spots they have.
Good luck.
Do you really want to go to a school that only will have you based on your race? My pride leads me to answer no, you will have to make your own decision. No matter what school you end up in college will be a wonderful time of growth and you will have a fantastic journey leading to your final path in life. Plus there is lots of booze and sex to!
sorry but none of that matters as much to the university as much as whether you have $35000 plus to pay your fees each year, they have so many top applications that only the financial aspect matters
