• Tea Tree Oil - Tea tree oil can be used, although sparingly, as tea tree oil is very drying and can damage the unscarred skin and jeopardize your piercing. This is not recommended for use on new and/or healing piercings.
• Sea Salt Soaks -
-Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial .
-Place about a pinch of non-iodized sea salt in a small disposable cup or a clean shotglass.
-Add hot water (has to be hot, but not so hot that you'd burn yourself) to the cup. Fill the cup about 1/2 to 3/4 full.
-Soak the area for about 5-10 minutes.
-Rinse thoroughly with water and pat dry with unused/clean towel (used towels carry TONS of bacteria)... or air dry.
• Chamomile Compress - Take a chamomile tea bag and dip it in boiling water. Immediately take the bag out and use as a compress upon the scarring, for 15 minutes. If you do this 2-3 times per day for 3-4 days, the scarring should go down. This does not work for everyone or on all piercings, but many people who have used it on cartilage piercings have reported positive results.
• Cortisone - OTC hydrocortisone ointments and creams containing from 0.5% to 1% cortisone can sometimes be used to shrink scar tissue.
