I love my Chi and i've never had problems with it. Obviously you don't want to throw it around the room but it shouldnt be hard at all to not break it. My friends have them and non of theirs have broken. I use mine all the time. there are many different kinds,so do your research. I have the Chi Turbo (red and black) you can find them on eBay for alot cheaper than you would pay at a beauty store. Ps i also have thick wavy hair.. it takes about 20-30 min with a Chi!
Do NOT get CHI. my family went thru 5 CHI in 3 yrs. Chi breaks within a few months and you have to pay $35 plus shipping to get it fixed. Their warranty is worthless!
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced a recall of Chi flat irons due to fire and burn hazards:
easy GHD...heat up in 30 secs up to 210 degrees celcious and they have a special feature of 'sleep mode' where f they aint been used for 30 mins, they cut the power which helps prevent firea etc.
As a stylist, I have used a lot of flat irons/hair straighteners, including Sedu, Hai, Infrashine, Chi, Paul Mitchell, Solia, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss Ghd, T3, Kenta etc. You should get a Professional hair straightener, they style much better and faster, and most importantly, they protect your hair.
In terms of performance:
The best ones are: Sedu, Kenta, Solia, Infrashine, Ghd. These are top of the line professional brands
Above average: Chi, Hai, Paul Mitchell,
Average: T3, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss
Below Average: Conair, Vidal Sassoon, Revlon, Bed Head etc. These are cheap consumer brands that you will find in drugstore. If you care about your hair, do NOT buy them.
=== Tips for buying professional hair appliances ===
Do NOT buy professional hair appliances from unauthorized places like amazom.com, eBay, Target, Walmart, etc. Because if you do, manufacturers will refuse to honor the warranty. Buy from licensed places like salon, licensed professional beauty stores like Folica.com, Ulta.com, West Coast Beauty Supply Inc. etc

Sedu works great for my THICK, FRIZZY hair. it is the only iron that let my hair stay straight for days even in high humidity (new york city).
