I am visiting Ct, and wanting to visit NYC for the day. I will be around New London Area. I want to take a train into the city. Maybe drive to New Haven and take train rest of the way, or something like that.
There is Amtrak and also.. Metro North Rail? MN Rail's website doesn't give good info. But someone said MNR would be a lot cheaper, like $10 one way instead of $40 for Amtrak.
Does anyone know the fares, and where the stations are at?

Drive to New Haven and take Metro North into Grand Central terminal. (42nd St on the east side).
You will have a better selection of trains into the city than with Amtrak, cheaper also.
My friend, drive to New Haven and take the Metro-North New Haven Line from there to Grand Central. A round trip off-peak will cost you around $31.
Good luck
I'd take Amtrak, for the simple reason that they have a station in New London, so you won't have to go elsewhere for the train.
Here's a link to Amtrak's website:
