i love in oak forest next to tinley creek is there any cray dads in there? its very shallow about 1 foot and in some parts less but how do u catch them if any are in there
There probably are some crayfish there. Them little suckers are tons of fun! You can make a trap or catch them by hand. The 2 liter bottle trap works alright, you cut off the top halve right when it stops tapering and push it back into the bottle backwards and ziptie it down. Then bait it and put it in the creek. Or you can buy a minnow trap from wallmart one of the black ones and use that. but were is the fun in that? You can also catch them by hand, just lift up rocks and try and find them, thats always fun. Then you can use them for bait, eat them, or let them go to live another day!
Best of luck, hope you don't get pinched to much! :D
Take a piece of raw chicken leg, like the drumstick, and tie some cordage to it,and tooss it into the creek, near shore,so you can observe it,and then go back there in a couple days, and see if there are any ripping away at it.you can sneak up on it at night, when they will be actively feeding on it,and see how many are there.Use a bright headlamp or powerful beam flashlight, and search around, you'll see them crawling around the chicken,if they aren't on it eating.Don't disturb the chicken, just watch where the cordage goes into the water, and follow it to the chicken, and then see what's ripping away at it.Then you can set a homemade or even a store bought trap, and get some, once you know there are some present.
Paul z said it. Im not familer with your neighborhood creek but I just wanted to add if you live somewhere in the north you wont see em this time of year.
You won't catch them this time of the year...it's to cold and they burrow underneath and lay dormant until the warmer spring and summer months..........
