I have psoriasis and have had it for about 2 and a half years. It is on my face around the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. I also have it on underneath my armpits, which is awwwwwwfulllllllll. I use protopic and ketaconazol (or whatever) shampoo. I also have a rx for vectacal and ozul. Anywayyyy...my face has suddenly cleared right up! and now it is all over my scalp. Is this common? Can psoriasis travel? And could this be a cause of anxiety?
Update:Yeah, I just notice that when I get anxious my armpits immediately start to hurt. :-/

I hesitate to use the word "travel" as it makes it sound as if psoriasis is contageous. But it's now understood that it's an autoimmune disorder with a genetic background, and as such, all of your skin is liable to develop it. So it is not rare for psoriasis to appear in different places as you live longer and longer with the disorder. Since sunlight tends to be an aid to treatment, it's common for the face to be uninvolved, or if it is, to have a higher tendency to clear up. The medicines that you are on are good, but certainly aren't the strongest available. (However, since it's your face that you were treating, it's wise to stay away from the very strong meds.). Should the psoriasis become even more widespread on you, there are now numerous ways to treat it, to keep it under control. It sounds as if your dermatologist has a good handle on it, though. People who have this disorder tend to be anxious about it, and actually the studies show that people with psoriasis are more worried about their disease than those who have cancer or high blood pressure. Make sure, though, that your doctor monitors your blood pressure and lipids, etc, as those are now known to be associated with psoriasis.
The main cause of psoriasis is overreaction of the immune system. Keeping it in a balanced state is the key point of battling this disease. I try to eat healthy food and avoid stress as much as I can.
After using number of prescription drugs I've turned to the natural treatments.
Now I use herbal remedies from serenaskin.com, which aim at the root of the disease - the immune system, and are steroid-free.
After about 2 weeks of using ointment and spray my skin has been cleared up and now I just continue with anti-psoriasis extract, which controls the immune system. My skin has been clear for months now.
It is the only treatment I have found that provides me complete relief when I use it as directed.
Psoriasis can occur anywhere on the body. It does not always occur in the same place, and may disappear for quite a while then pop up in another location.
As for the link to anxiety, it can be a source of anxiety for people trying to deal with the physical appearance of it. It does not, however, cause anxiety due to the disease process.
