I think the most important thing to start with is to get your baby into a good sleep routine. I had massive problems with getting my 4 month old son to sleep. He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again! Talk about pulling our hair out .... we were absolutely desperate for sleep!
It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting James into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once!
Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and you could find that solves most of your baby sleep problems.

When you figure it out let me know. My son is 4 months and still up at least every 2hrs. We tried moving him to his own room because that's what our doctor suggested. He was still up every 2hrs only then I had to get up and go get him and by the time I got him he was fully awake and harder to put back down. We moved him back to our room and co-sleep. I just roll over, feed him, then roll back to sleep. I don't feel great but far more rested then when he was in his crib. Bottle feeding doesn't always make a difference for all babies. For some that helps and for some it doesn't. My mom tried it on each of us and it never helped.
I have a friend that just started using hylands calm forte 4 kids, they are the same ones that make the teething tablets. I am going to get some today and give them a try.
Feeding right before you put baby down. If baby in nursing then she/he may not sleep a long time. Feeding is usually every 2 hours, but if you decide to use formula it takes longer to digest and your baby will sleep longer. Put a receiving blanket in the dryer to get it warm and wrap your baby up tightly like they did in the hospital nursery. In other words swaddling! Good luck!
Babies magic tea is a natural formula to get newborns and infants comfortable from colic gas and other tummy troubles that won't allow them to get longer sleep hours.

Get a good mattress and try a routine.
