Well.... just because you say she's boring doesn't mean she won't like presents.

Does she have any hobbies? If so, you can buy gift cards from places like JoAnn's or Borders depending upon what interests her.

How much were you thinking of spending? A nice necklace with a heart would be nice. Penney's has some and I am sure many of the larger jewelry stores do too.

Flowers and balloons are fun- but they don't last. A plant may be nice, too.

Would she like a day at a spa? Some places offer services like massages and manicures for reasonable prices. She could be pampered for a day. Everyone likes to be pampered.

These are just a few ideas. I would stay away from the "Over the Hill" presents just in case she's taking turning 40 a bit harder than some.
