to save you alot of hassle and grief, i would restore the PC to factory settings

After the PC has been restiored, get Zone Alarm Firewall (free) and a decent anti-virus software ( Norton or similar)

Your best bet would be to receive assistance from Online malware removal forums, which are free and everyone who helps out are experts with malware removal and help us for free and on their own time. They are vollunteers.

Browse a few forums and read posts until you find one which you feel comfortable with. Then log on as a member and read the first sticky post for beginners usually called, "Read first", or some wording of that type.

HijackThis is actually a powerful software program for scanning a system for malware of all types and then it can give you a log of what it finds. Don't remova anything on your own until you are directed to do so, because often some files which are tagged as malware are actually files your system or programs need to function properly. Let the experts tell you what to delete and when.

This is a process and not done in one step. You have to download and run the HijackThis program and then post the log back to the forum for the expert who is aiding you to evaluate.

Don't become overwhelmed by the full process, just take it a step at a time and follow directions and soon you will have your computer back into tip top shape. You probably have more malware than you think you do.

This can be a very long process. You need to find and remove every program running that is related to the trojan, every file from your hard-drive that is related to it, registry entries, startup items, and possibly more depending on how much damage has been done.

If you're not experienced in system administration, it's very difficult to do thoroughly on your own. I would recommend contacting a technician.

The easy way out is to back-up all of your important files and re-format your computer (re-installing Windows and losing everything you have on there right now). Your computer will likely run a lot faster for a little while if you do this as well.

Just ran in to this a few days ago. What ended up fixing this was booting in safe mode and running smithfraudfix.exe and then a full Avg scan.

start--administrative tools--services

alerter service

right click--select properties--select disable from drop down menu

repeat this process for messenger service

remove virus/trojan/worm:

start--control panel--internet options--privacy--advanced--override

select:

allow 1st party cookies

BLOCK 3rd [ tracking ] party cookies

delete cookies/history/temp files from internet options general page

empty prefetch and temp file folders

start--control panel--[ XP ] local disk drive (c), [ Vista ] O.S. (c)--windows

temp folder-- [ XP ] file, [ Vista ] organize--select all

press delete key on keyboard

now go OFFLINE and power back up under SAFE MODE.

while booting up,press f-8 key till you get SAFE MODE utility selection

1st thing,turn OFF system restore where nasties lurk.

all programs--accessories--system tools--system restore

settings--drive (c)--setting--check the OfF box [ while there,set slider to 3% to recover 10% disk space ]

Vista:

start--control panel--performance,information & tools--open disk clean link--select O.S. (c)--select more options--select system restore and shadow copies--select clean up

do a disk clean:

XP:

start--all programs--accessories--system tools--disk clean--disk drive (c)--click delete--click delete again to finish

Vista:

start--control panel--performance,information & tools--select disk clean--select disk drive [ O.S. c ]--click ok--click delete--click ok

HOPEFULLY,you have an anti-virus--anti-rootkit blocker as well as at least 2 anti-spyware removers installed.

i'd also HIGHLY reccomend downloading Firefox web browser and it's attending security extensions.

once you are cleaned up,return to system restore and create a new,clean restore point to work from in the future.

First unplugged from any RJ-eleven or RJ-40 5 connections, then keep your records, then format, resinstall your computing gadget, start up from scratch is easiler for amuters like u, if were given funds, purely then set up those anti-vrius softwares like Norton, macfee, etc.
