I've had mine pierced for 7 years now. I took mine out about 4 years ago and the hole is still there.

I can fit the bar through it still.

I do not recommend getting it pierced, there's much more attractive piercings that you can do, and unless you plan on having tight abs the rest of your life and not having children... don't do it.

When you have kids, I hear the hole stretches with the stomach and gets rather large.

For healing, it depends how quickly your body is able to recover.

Mine took 7 weeks to heal, but I also was putting Cetaphil lotion on it every chance I got and I stayed out of chlorine water for a few months.

I personally think it is trashy, I don't have it done.

But I think it is around a year, for the healing period.
