Hello.
I was trying to find vocal teachers to teach me how to sing because I am very interested in singing, and I found a teacher that teaches speech level singing. I was wondering if this is the right choice.
My problems are that I can't find my real voice. Whenever I try singing a song, my voice can't reach higher parts when singing high, and can't reach lower parts when singing low. My vocal range is also terrible. I'm also trying to figure out what vocal class do I fit in, although I think I am a baritone since my speaking voice is a bit in the lower side. Lastly, I want to learn to sing with vibrato.
I am 17, turning 18 next month, and I was wondering if Speech Level Singing (SLS), is the right way to go.
Also, I was wondering if I am paying the right price. He is Alexys Paris in San Francisco, and he's a certified SLS instructor. The teacher's rate is $40 per 30 minutes, because we do it in a studio. During the practice, the record the students, and give them a burned CD at the end of every lesson to listen, hear, practice, and fix their problems while singing. Do you think this is at the right range of price, or too high or too low?
Thank you in advance to all that help! =]
Update:Yes, I'm pretty sure my voice is done changing.
Oh yea, about the studio thing, the teacher just has a studio to do his lessons. And what he does is he records our whole practice so that we can keep listening to lessons that he teaches us to be better so that we don't keep making the same mistakes. Also, so we can practice at home. The studio and the recording in a CD is not to change our voices digitally, but so that we can look back at it at him. He does nothing to digitally with our voices.
And the studio is basically just a place to hold the class, not an actual producing area.

is your voice done changing? if so, then you have already answered your question. your vocal range is terrible. having a good coach not in a studio is more wirthwhile because then you learn to fix your mistakes without a computer, which issnt even fixing your voice. it just makes it sound better.
