I'm currently potty train a 2nd dog too. I'm doing same i did with my first dog..
It takes alot of persistance and patience. When every my dog pees or poos where hes not supposed to (in my case its inside) I show him what he did wrong and tell him NO, then take him outside and show him where he is supposed to do that at.
Also, Your dog may just be marking its terrirtory because it can smell where the other dog peed and pooped at- so deep cleaning everything with a pet odor eliminator is very important.
Good luck!
Crate train....it is the best. Don't buy a huge crate just big enough that your pet fits comfortable but not huge. I have a small crate for my yorkie. When you are away, you don't have time for your pet(you can't watch at the moment) even at night if he pees. Take him out of the crate as soon as you get home or you want him out of the crate(you have time) take him out of the crate and immediately take him outside. Watch him pee you will eventually learn his schedule. Then bring him back in for lets say a hour....take him back out until he pees if he doesn't pee put him back in the crate say for 15-20 mins then take him out again if he pees he gets to stay out. He will get it some dogs get it right away others it takes time but this is a sure thing Crate Training is the best. I trained two dogs this way and breeders/trainers also swear by this method. My dog loves her crate I even leave her door open during the day and she goes in there to rest. My girls know when Annie is in her crate she is off limits that is her home. Hope this helps! Heather
Chihuahua's are one of the hardest to potty train. If you don't do it when they are young then you might as well rename them, "Peanut butter Toes". One method that works for other breeds is to have a rolled up newspaper handy. When they make a mistake you grab the paper and spank around the spot that they made and scold loudly so they will understand that you don't like what they did. Then you take them outside to where you would like them to go and speak kindly. It helps if you have one of their stools outside where you want them to go so they will know it is okay. It works great. I taught a collie the first time to go in the orchard and not on the lawn. I taught a friends dog that had never lived indoors after 1 time. Good luck to you...you will need it. Mmm
I swear by crate training, its worked for all my dogs. They each have their own crate and they even go sleep in them when they are tired. after they get used to the idea they look at the crate as their own little place, "or room".
If you think about it a wild dog will find a den, and in the domestic world the crate is their den.
You need to be persistent and consistent. Scold your pooch when he does not behave the way you wish (don't hit), then take him outside until he goes outside. Praise him for doing what you like -- he'll get the message eventually.
maybe you should try kennel training.Thats what i had to do with my dog.place him in there and when you let him out take him straight outside.
