Two ropes are attached to either side of a 25.0 kg wagon as shown below. The rope on the left is pulled at an angle 40 degrees to the horizontal with a tension of 30.0N and while the rope on the right is pulled directly to the east (0 degrees relative to the horizontal) with a tension of 55.0 N.
Find the components of the tension forces applied by the ropes. Show all work.
Please help! I think the components include both horizontal and vertical forces. Please explain if you could also! Thank you!!

The component of a vector in some direction tells you how much of the vector is pointing in that direction.
It's SUPER difficult to do...... You take the size of the force, and multiply by cosine of the angle.
If you have taken ANY trig (which I assume you have otherwise you wouldn't be given crazy angles), this should be plan obvious to you.
Left horizontal 30cos(40°) = 23.0 N
and vertical 30cos(90°-40°) = 30sin(40°) = 19.3 N (up or down, depends on where the rope is pointing)
The right is of course 55 N all horizontal.
Best wishes!

sorry, can't find this.
