I have the old version: adobe photoshop 7. I tried to open a file from a while ago, but it tells me: "could not open...because the file is not compatiable with this version. It's weird because all my other files work. Does that mean I need to get a newer version? Or is the file corrupted?

Gotta upgrade.
If you used the file previously in photoshop 7, I don't see why it wouldn't work now unless it was corrupt. Generally you will only have trouble with opening a file from a later version of a piece of software. For instance, trying to open a CS2 file in version 7.
If you could open your other files most likey it corrupted, or try to upgrade with photo shop cs3
You can try it free for 30 days
