A few questions...What is a hot shoe and do you need it? Also what kind of film do you buy for a Pentax K1000 and/or a Canon EOS Rebel? And where do you buy that film (Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc.)?
Film comes in different speeds for different usages. A good all around filmspeed would be 400 or 800 but it really depends on what you are shooting. Indoors vs. outdoors. Still photography vs. Sports. If you look on the film package it will tell you what speed is good for what use.
You can buy film at Walmart / CVS / Walgreens / Target or your local camera shop.
A hot shoe is the name of the connector at the top of the camera, where you would normally attach a flash.
The grade of film you are going to buy typically depends on what type of project you're shooting for. If you are shooting a wedding, or for a publication (that is paying you) then you will probably want to buy pro film. My suggestion would be to talk to rep at a pro camera store about the different grades of film. If you are shooting for yourself then any film should do, try a few out and decide which one you like best.
You'll also want to carry different ISO's of film with you. For very bright sunny days you'll want ISO 100, party cloudy could be 100 or 200, overcast I use 400 ISO. Again, as you use them you'll be able to decide which you like. BTW the higher the ISO, the higher the price, but the difference is normally marginal.

A hot shoe is where you attach your flash to the camera. If you want to attach one in the future, get a camera with a hot shoe.
If you look at this photo the shoe is atop the camera.

Here's a Wikipedia link about ISO that may help:
