I'm in pretty bad pain after a dental appointment and was prescribed vicodin, however I happen to be allergic to it so they gave me Tylenol 3. It doesn't sound strong enough... Is it a narcotic or comparable to vicodin strength?

I've taken both for back pain. They are comparable in pain relief. T3's have codeine in them, so be careful if you're allergic to codeine.
But, yes, I think the T3's will help with your tooth pain.
The codeine component is 30mg - the maximum I can give a patient for pain is about 60mg, so you're at half max dosage. The thing about pain killer addiction is that it is physiologically impossible to become addicted to the medication if you are only taking it while you are having pain. It is those people who take the meds without pain that have a risk of addiction. So basically, a pneumothorax hurts! Take your Tylenol as often as you need to.
