Hi i wana get a new desktop with Intel Quad Core CPU and 640 GB Hard Drive , and I want to install XP and Vista Windows :-) Plus many applications :-) so please let me know how much ram do I need ?
4GB is the max if you're using the 32-bit versions of either XP or Vista; and Vista kinda' needs every last bit of 4GB.
And even if you're using the 64-bit versions (which alllow you to use WAY more than 4GB... as long as the motherboard can handle it), 4GB still ain't bad. I'd certainly not do more than 8GB with 64-bit XP or Vista. It's just not necessary for most situations.
Windows XP will only recognize about 3.5GB's of ram, Vista I believe fixed this problem, so you can put up to like 32GB or something like that. Anyways depending on the apps and games you want to play I'd go with at least 4GB's possibly 8GB. With the price of ram right now you might as well just max out your board ram is crazy cheap atm. Check out www.newegg.com for good deals on it.
