I see all of these programs for hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, traveling abroad, kayaking, the list goes on!
But tuition or fees for all are upwards in the thousands. I'm not capable of getting the best financial aid, so what are my options?

1) Forget about "these programs" and just do the things you want to do on your own.
2) You don't need a tour guide to travel or engage in outdoor activities, especially in English speaking countries.
3) You get some used gear together and get out there and have at it.
4) You don't need and shouldn't get financial aid or course credit for living life to the fullest.
5) If you don't have the money for plane tickets, food or even used gear work, beg, borrow, & save until you have enough and perhaps share the costs with someone else.
6) Life on the road is a community experience so I'm told. Choose your own adventure and there will be people out there willing to help you achieve your goals, from long trail "angels" to donations to a daily blog of your adventures.
7) The library and to a lesser extent the internet are rich resources for learning the basics of any outdoor activity, travel guides, maps, gear guides, etc.

Well, you can organize a carpool so that you can drive you and your group to the wilderness. Along with enough supplies, you and your group will have a wonderful outdoor adventure.
