she's 5 1/2 months old... and has been sick for the past 3 weeks!! she is coughing and has a very congested nose... at the beginning her chest was also congested... i took her to the ped's office two weeks ago... she said her lungs were clear and it was just her throat and nose.. gave medicines for the duration of 5 days, we used them.. she was getting better but then, she got worse again. now it's mostly coughing and congested nose.. last night the poor thing was coughing constantly and couldn't sleep... i took at to the bathroom in the middle of the night and let the hot water run and stayed there for about 10 minutes, but once we got out of the bathroom, the same thing started again. her mattress is elevated and i clean, aspire her nose constantly but anything i do seems to work only for 5 minutes, after that, everything is congested again. I'm taking her to the ped's office tomorrow but was just wondering what i could do for her tonight if again, she can't sleep....
any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would take her to a different pediatrician. That's a long time to be sick and you want to make sure there's no bronchitis or pnemonia.
My four month old was sick for weeks as well with the same answers from our ped. I left discouraged cause I hate sucking his nose. We ended up finding out there was mold in our house. We bought a de-humidifier and bleached the mold and he was near perfect after a few days
Cool mist humidifier, saline & suction and TLC is just about all you can do. It sucks big time though! Just keep doing what you are doing. I've read (on here even) to slather the baby's feet in VaporRub and cover with socks to help coughing. I've never done it, but will attempt it next time my daughter has a bad cough at night. Maybe you can try that to see if it works for you if she is that bad off at night. If not, there is a Baby VaporRub that you can rub directly on her chest. That I have used and it did help my daughter with coughing when she was younger.
This happens with my daughter alot, I found that the vic baby rub works great to keep the nose at least running and not stopped up. Try that and see if it will help you. It is normally sold next to all the infant stuff! Also maybe a warm mist humidifier.
take her to see the doctor asap and tell them the stuff worked for a bit maybe it needs to be a longer dose or something stronger, my doctor said the same thing to me last winter and my baby ended up being on anti bionics for 2 weeks straight and if she missed one day she would have to start over again.
