This tuesday there is a meeting for anyone that is interested in running track. I am interested but i don't know anything about it and would like to know how fast i need to be. I know people say that it isn't that hard just try, but I really don't want to embarrass myself. So if someone could give me some minimum starting times for the different lenghts of runs. Oh yeah this is highschool track and I am a sophmore girl.

Definetely go to the meeting and listen to what they have to say. you should probably talk to the coach and some other girls from the team to see what they reccommend. You won't be embarrassed if you are prepared before the season starts. at our school- under 3:00 is pretty good for an 800, under 7:00 for a 1600, and under 75 seconds for a 400. i was in the same postition as you my freshman year...but im a junior now and im so glad i joined! good luck!
well first of all there isnt a required time or "how fast you need to be" ive done track since the 9th grade and ill admit I suck but i do it for the fun of it, its something i can do anyone could do if they put there mind to it so what ill tell you is that it doesnt matter and not all events in track require speed so find what you like and maybe youll do well. I think for girls 100m the time is like 14 sec minuim most girls get and 200m i think its close to 30 sec but im not sure about that but just try it and dont worry about embarisment theres always gonna be someone slower than you or youd hope lol but ya hope that helps a little.
~*Well... first off, good luck. I am running track this year. You should go to the meeting and they should talk about it. You need to be able to (in my opinion by what are track rule is) run the mile in less than 7-8 minutes. Therre are other things that you can do instead of running in track you know that right? If your good at running go for it. You need to eat right and exercise daily. Its not easy but you do need to try.*~
well you don't have to be fast if you have good stamina you can run the 880 (its 2 laps around the track) but you should be a descent speed.
