the question is "do you want to keep the truck?" replacement parts have been readily available up to now. its fairly easy to work on the chevy trucks and even engine rebuilding or swap is not that expensive.
any vehicle with 300,000 miles will need repair and maintenance, and free isn't really free. but it could be a good rig if you want it to be.
I've owned my 85k10 since 1996 and have had fun rebuilding, replacing and updating the truck. it's now a great daily driver that will go almost anywhere, with turbo diesel power and selectable, locked differentials.
hope this helps
Are those trucks available diesel? If that were a diesel model I could see the engine lasting a lot longer however things like transmissions can still go bad even if the engine is running strong. So I would say that is quite a gamble.
I have a Chevy 1500 Pickup that has 289,1xx miles and is still going strong, but you never know. It could break down tomorrow or it could go another 200k.
