I wish to purchase a glock 17 with a safety lock featured on the web page of glock. http://www.glock.com/english/index_contact.htm The lock is located in the back of the pistol grip and uses a unique key. I went to Cabala's and they had not heard of it. I looked on the web but I am unable to further information. Does anyone have one? Does it work well?
Update:Many good answers thank you. My local gun store informed me that it would have to be special ordered. The salesman was very good. Since this is going to be my first handgun I was focused on safety. As mentioned below the lock does not make a gun safe. He suggested that I not focus on the lock and try different hand guns to see which one I like to fire more than the others.
Incidently the HK P30 has a lock in the pistol grip as well and seemed to fit my hand better.
Thanks.

Locks are not a good thing to put on a gun that is going to be used for home defense. Just wanted to point that out. A gun safe would be best. But as others have stated yes, calling a gun shop and getting the details and ordering the item from them would be best.
Glock 17 Safety Lock
I have explored this for mine that I currently own.
Unfortunately you are going to be sending the guns to Glock to have them equipped for this. There is a modification in the frames of the pistols that must be done and/or they must change the entire lower part of the pistol to make this work.
I have Gen 2 Models and they will require them to be sent back to the factory to have mine updated for this.
If I did not have a gunsafe, and a few other devices including trigger locks, I would consider doing this. However, at this point unless they start coming with this feature here in the USA soon, I will probably not waste my time with this feature.
I can say this though, regardless of what they may advertise, there is no Law Enforcement Officer I know on duty that is going to unlock his/her gun before they have to shoot someone. That lock is geared for the folks who keep these at home for their own defense purposes.
Having said that, I would not keep the lock engaged for that purpose either. That is precisely why I have the hand lock safe next to my bed. The type you place your fingers in the little buttons to unlock it.
Good Luck and Happy Shooting!
The lock comes as part of the Glock Safety Pack. You might locate a real gun dealer(one who sells just guns) and order it. A dealer will know more about it than anyone at Cabela's.

I have seen one just recently. I also have a H&K with a lock, I only tried it once and found that it is only good for keeping it locked while in the safe and unloaded. If you need to fire your gun the additional time it takes to get the key out, and unlock the gun, may be the time you needed to fire. Making your gun useless when you most needed it.
If keeping someone from using your gun is your concern get a small gun safe and keep it there when you are not using it.
The best way to store a Glock safely is unloaded. Since they posses no real safety, they are Absolutely unsafe with a round loaded into the chamber, as if anything gets caught in the trigger guard, the weapon will fire. Period. These pistols were designed for Europeans who do not keep a round in the chamber until the time is called for. When these "civilized" countries start experiencing home invasions (like we do), as frequently as their own news media will admit, their pistols will become more safe and combat ready (in a safe manner).
As for locks:
It is four in the morning. You've just heard breaking glass and voices in your living room.
Where is your safety key? And will you have time enough to find and/or use it (fumbling in the darkness), before the Barbarians get to your wife and kids?
By the way, did you bother to load your magazine, or even remember to chamber that (and most vital), first cartridge?
Generally, you have to special order it. I don't think it's worth the hassle, it has no real practical value, if you are worried about your gun falling into the wrong hands, you are better off just putting it in a safe (even a small single pistol safe), or using a cable lock.
Im not sure if its available in the US yet. My advice would be to call a local Glock Armorer in your area (gun shops) and see what they say. Cabelas is great and all, I usually get good service, but they are not experts in every brand of gun out there.
These are fairly new. A real Glock dealer can order it.
