A small piece isn't going to kill your dog. A whole bar, probably not.
It really depends on how big your dog is...a bigger dog can handle more chocolate...but still it's not good for them to eat chocolate.
If it just happened, you can induce vomiting with Hydrogen Peroxide and water...mix it together, and you'll have to give it to your dog...then be on alert for the purge...it'll come soon after. Stay off the carpet...it stains!

My big dog ate a whole bag of really expensive Truffles one time, I induced vomiting, and she was fine!
Sometimes, dogs get into things, like chocolate...accidents happen.
Dogs and puppies do not have the ability as we humans do to digest a simple chemical found in chocolate called "Theobromine". When theobromine is ingested by an animal it affects are horrific on the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system. This effect of the chemical has a very harsh effect on the animal’s body causing severe trauma and oftentimes death. If your 50-pound dog gets his paws on a single chocolate-chip cookie, it probably won't cause him serious problems. However, if he gobbles up more – a pan of brownies, say – he may develop vomiting or diarrhea. Once toxic levels are reached, the stimulants kick in, and this is when you really have to worry. Symptoms include: restlessness, hyperactivity, muscle twitching, increased urination and/or excessive panting. If your pet isn't treated, he could go into a seizure – possibly even die. So, don't let your dog to eat chocolate. :)
I've always heard this as well, but one time my dog somehow opened a drawer and there was a box of see's candy in there, my dog ate the whole thing and acted normal after. No barfing, no runny poop, nada. So I don't know if every dog is different or what, but the chocolate had no effect on my dog. She's a boxer/lab mix.
It depends on the type of chocolate, and the age, weight, and general health of the dog. The darker the chocolate, the more toxic it is. And the smaller the dog, the less chocolate he or she could eat to have it be a toxic and possibly lethal dose.
Well one time my Labrador Retriever ate my WHOLE easter bag full of chocolate but she was fine. I guess it depends on the size of your dog. Still I wouldn't take any chances. I sad to report a year later, my dog which was only two(in people years) died of some sort of liver disease. But I don't want to share much personal with the whole world.
Chocolate isn't good for dogs but unless they have an allergic reaction or something they're not going to drop down dead. My granny fed our dog KitKats when she had her cup of tea in the afternoon. Every day my granny would sit down at about 3 o'clock with a cup of tea and a couple of kitkats and the two of them would enjoy a little treat together. I didn't find this out for many years, Judy stayed at my granny's house while we were out of the house during the day. Admittedly Judy did develop diabetes in her old age (but then again she lived to be 16!) Then again that might say more about the low cocoa content of Kitkats than the safety of chocolate for dogs! But I'm not advocating feeding chocolate to dogs and I don't feed it to mine.
It really varies from dog to dog therefore if you are trying to not kill the dog don't feed any, if you are trying to kill the dog you would use a lot.

If you dog accidently eats some chocolate, it's not going to die. Dogs can get heart worms from eating a lot of chocolate

evn a small piece of chocolate can kill a dog
My dog helped herself to my easter candy one year. Didn't get sick at all, but I don't reccommend giving it to dogs. She's a black lab/akita mix.
