i am looking for a hand gun and have been told both are great guns. which one is better? i have smaller hands and have shot a XD 45. it felt too big. so any comments would be great.
Look at a Ruger SR9 or a 1911 compact. I would look for a single stack magazine model. Glocks and XD's and all other double stacks are pretty much the same grip width.
Glock 19 vs. Glock 23? Same gun different caliber. Which caliber works better for you? The 9mm has been around forever and ammo can be found world-wide. Best defensive rounds come in 115 to 127 grain hollow point. Practice ammo is cheap. The .40 S & W is designed to duplicate the performance of the .45 acp in a smaller platform pistol. Ammo is a bit more expensive and may be harder to find. The Glock is an excellent pistol despite what the non-fans proclaim. It is user friendly, accurate, high capacity and available in more calibers than other popular semi-autos. It will not accidently discharge when dropped even from great heights. Just keep your finger out of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot and carry or store in a holster that covers the trigger. I prefer the Model 20 in 10mm myself (which is even more powerful than the old .45 acp) and I recommend the Model 19 to the beginning shooter because it is gentle to shoot and user friendly. Police cadets who have failed to qualify with whatever they were carrying before have switched to the Model 19 and qualified the first time they shoot it. Best. H
I'm not sure what the CZ 75 Duty is. There are different variations of the CZ 75, but the only CZ with "Duty" in the title that I know of is the CZ P07 Duty. I own a CZ P07 Duty 9mm and it is fine for a $399 gun with an excellent DA/SA trigger, but it's a polymer frame gun and glock probably makes better polymer frame handguns. CZ's specializes in all-metal guns that I think are superior to glocks (but I am also favor DA/SA with decocker over glock action). If you are interested in a compact CZ, I recommend a CZ 75 P01 (http://cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-p01/) or a CZ 75 PCR D Compact (http://cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-75-d-pcr-compac... They are excellent DA/SA pistols with decockers and alloy frames. The primary difference between the two is that PCR doesn't have rail and is more snag-free for carry purposes.
If you really want polymer over everything else, go with the glock. If you really want Double Action/Single Action (DA/SA) over Glock action, than go with a CZ. Glock action tries to compromise on safety advantages of DA and the trigger pull of SA. Racking the slide and chambering a round partially cocks the gun, pulling the trigger finishes the cocking before releasing the striker. If you want the best of all worlds, than one of the CZs mentioned above.
Like the other answer , with small hands the Ruger SR9 is a good choice.Ask to handle one at the local gun shop.CZ and Glock make great guns however witch is "better" ?Well you need to decide what you want .Ether will get the job done.
+1 steelrain put one in your hand Glock is a cop gun for a reason. Easy to clean SA pull DA pull are the same. You are going to have problems with any double stack mag. 1911 models are single stack and comfortable and if you shoot a 45 a 1911 type is a good choice. Single stack easy to work on, tons and tons of after market add ons.
Since you have smaller hands and the XD felt too big for you..... if you look at Glocks be sure you look at a Generation 4.... it'll fit smaller hands much better than the previous generations.
