Many programs no longer work including AOL and AIM. Is this a virus? If it is, can it be fixed and how?
Try scanning/cleaning for virus using this:

If it can not be installed on your laptop, try installing Kaspersky on a USB flash drive then scan from there.
After a successful cleanup, consider repairing OS. Auto repair in the Windows installation disc is easy. All your files will remain INTACT.

CHKDSK is a valid microsoft program, it checks for and tries to fix disk errors. It should not be removed.
