Sedu is better. I was really sold on the "non-pulling" that most people had commented on. Also that on the picture it showed that the plates were inlaid much better. I was previously using a CHI Flat iron, the ceramic was wearing off and the iron was not heating on the edge of one of the plates. The CHI Iron always pulled on my hair. I really couldn't go much longer than 4 weeks with out having to get a good haircut as my ends would always become split and it would look horrible. A little about my hair. I have curly hair that is of medium thickness. December of 2004 I had Bio Ionic Thermal Reconditoining (permanent straightening). So at this time my hair is wavy on the ends and then the roots about maybe 3-4 inches is very curly as I have not gone for a retouch. If you can imagine now, I can defiately not wash and go with my hair naturally, this is why I MUST flat iron my hair. So...I used my iron today. Since I was expecting my iron today I washed my hair last night. When I got my iron I was very pleased that it was very light. The plates are definately smooth, even shiny. So I plugged this bad boy in and got to work. It took just as long as normal about 30-45 minutes. (After each section I wrap it up in a 1 1/2 inch velcro roller so that I get a nice bouncy not so flat more natural look which adds about 10-15 minutes to my routine.) This iron definately does not pull on the hair. It slides right through. It heats up fast but I don't think it was much faster than the previous iron. It definately got hotter as I use the highest setting. It took me about 2 passes to get the hair very straight as with the previous iron I used to have to go at least 3 times sometimes 4. This was especially good news for me as my tough spots are right at the frame of my face and my roots and this will mean less damage and breakage thus not many fly aways. my new SEDU iron gets very hot and slides through easily. Using the handle was sufficiant for me as well as the fact that this iron closed perfectly with out any gaps. Thus I had no problems with the amount of heat on the outside of the plates. I also read comments about the material used and that it looked "Cheap". I don't think it looks cheap. The material used seems to be a composite material which makes the iron light, which I LOVE. I could care less of the out side of the iron. I want it to work well, as it does. All in all this was worth the money.
CHI! I have the $120 one and it works so well my hair is longer than shoulder length and thin but very very curly and my hair is like completely straight after just 10 minutes of using it. Get the CHI!
