I recently purchased a 1990 BMW 525i, motor is high mileage, but the price was right. Anyway, I decided it needs a new clutch kit installed. I will be doing this myself, either at my house, or in a shop. How long does a job of this size usually take? I've never done any transmission work, but I'd love to learn. Are there any specialty tools I will need? Doing this in a shop I would have maybe, an hour or two to work on it a day. Is it possible to complete the job in 3 days or so?

I wouldn't be putting a new clutch in it unless it needs one to begin with.
it wouldn't be that hard of a job if you have a lift and a transmission jack. just make sure you take your time and don't cut corners. you might need a gear puller to pull the throwout bearing and replace that. Have fun and enjoy doing it.
like I said take your time and take every safety precautions you can to make sure you don't break something or hurt yourself. parts for a BMW are not cheap just like you.
Not on a BMW, not your first, and especially if it doesn't absolutely need one. Start with a half ton chevy truck. Crack that BMW in half and it will never run again. This is not something for a beginer. Sorry
