I have a manual trans in my 83 chevy c20. I want to switch it over to an automatic. My cousin believes i can without having to change anything in the rear of the truck. My question is what do i ask for when i call a junk yard? My engine in the truck is a 350 small block i think. I just bought this truck and im completely dumb when it comes to cars/trucks. please help if u can!!

for 1 thing if your radiator is,nt set up for transmission lines then you will need another radiator. you will have to change the flywheel because automatics have a flex plate and make sure your starter will work with a automatic flywheel. in the rear? you have to make sure your drive shaft is the right length. just tell the junk man you need everything to change it over to automatic.
Simply tell the junkyard what you plan to do. You'll need the flex plate and torque converter, the auto trans, drive shaft at the very least. Buy new universal joints - you don't want junk yard used ones. The differential gear ratio is likely different between manual and auto trans. So If I were doing the swap, I'd want everything from the flex plate all the way back to the rear wheels. New universal joints and wheel bearings and you're good to go.
