Just looking into over clocking my Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 processor.
But I'm not sure how to do it at all and what programs to use to monitor its temp.
If you know how to over clock this certain model and know what I should push it to safely and good enough to improve performance please let me know how. Thank you.
Cập nhật:If someone could give me step by step instructions that would be helpful.

If you don't know how to over clock you just don't do it but here is some information .
I would get Core Temp also its great for watching CPU temps it puts the temps on your task bar.
What I would do first is start with the FSB. The stock speed should be 3.3ghz. So slowly bring your FSB up to get the processor to 3.4ghz. Let it boot into windows maybe play around with it for awhile to see how it does. After awhile you may have to up the voltage on the cpu and It might becomes unstable. But be sure to take it really slow and don't make big jumps in speed or you will be sorry.
Make sure you know what your base temps are before you start. The temp in the BIOS only reads the temp at the center of the CPU. So that is why it would be good to get Core Temp up and running that way you can see the temp of all of your chips cores. Don't let the CPU temps go over 65c and you should be fine.
its debateable. the core 2 duos will perform almost identically in games to the similar clocked quad cores that run on the same architecture. quad cores cost more but dont give you an edge in 99% of all games out today over core 2 duos. i would not go for the e8600. way too expensive. go for an e8400 if you must get the 8 series. you can always overclock it to match that of the e8600. ( i have my 8400 overclocked to about 3.5ghz without changing any voltages so heat production and life expetancy have not changed. the q6600 does not compete with the wolfdale (45nm) series dual cores unless you do a massive overclock and even then the overclock will be only close to the stock non overclocked wolfdale cpus. the only thing quadcores are better at than dual cores is video editing/compression applications etc. games do not use 4 cores. (i think only 1-2 do) It will be a while before games are designed for quad cores. its no use spending $300-500 on a quad core when you can spend 150 on a dual core (e8400) and have it perform similarly if not better in games. when games start using quad core (which probably wont be for another year or so) then you can always upgrade which by then prices will have come down to a reasonable level.

For gaming, you want faster core speed since they dont use all 4 cores. So typical you are comparing a 2.4ghz to a 3.33ghz... Some single core processors will out perform a quad core in gaming due to the exact same reason... "overclocked to about 3.5ghz without changing any voltages so heat production and life expetancy have not changed." Is false, any overclock stresses a cpu and system. Also, overclocking of ANY type voids the warranty. So if it dies in 2 weeks from NOT changing the life expectancy, dont cry to the manufacturer, they will only say sorry... I suggest purchase the fastest dual core you can for gaming. If you like to multi task, I would get the quad, since the future is definately going to be designed around the multiple cores. Also, if you're like me, you can run 10 things at once, and still play a game. If you ARE into overclocking like that one person suggests.. then overclock the Q6600 to 3.0ghz. It's very common to get 3.0ghz or better on the Q6600 even on AIR cooling! So, that eliminates the advantage of the higher core speed on the dual core... Get the dual if you want to game and NOT overclock. Get the quad, purchase a nice cpu cooler/heatsink, and overclock the hell out of it. Those are my 2 suggestions. Just dont forget to add a great graphics card to match the cpu. Have fun & Good luck
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600
First enter the BIOS setup and find CPU Frequency Control or some thing like that. Then continue a bit and a bit increasing the CPU FSB about 10MHz or more. Continue it while the computer is not turning on. It is the maximum range of overclocking for your CPU. Then just turn off your PC and turn it ON again. It will automatically reset bios and start normally. Then change back the CPU FSB to the low one that from maximum range of overclocking rate. If you overclock your CPU you must also overclock your PCI-EX and Ram frequencies for stable of your system.
You can use Speed Fan to check your CPU, GPU heats and also the fan speed of them.

Its pretty easy, as long as your motherboard supports overclocking....
Also you should be aware that overclocking will majke your CPU more hot, so you'll need to have a good cooling system.
You overclock it using BIOS and when you to check the temperature just go to BIOS again
