I'm a U.S Citizen traveling to Vietnam. I'm planning to stay for many years. How long can I legally stay in Vietnam? If there's a limit time, then how can i extend it?
you can stay as long as you have the proper visas and you can get the proper visa if you dont cause trouble.. i know a number of people that get a 6 month renewable visa once they are in country.. now any american can get a 3 month visa in the states and renew in vn.. its no problem at all if your not a major problem while living there.. you can even get a good job...anyway look for "smiler's" and "traveler's" responce.. i do believe they both live there...
Finally a question that I have soooo much knowlege in lol...
OK... My family is from vietnam... but everyone in the family including me (5 members) are U.S citizen.. My dad and my older brother travel back to vietnam almost every 6 months. My brother have a visa for visiting.. that for 3 months.. and if you want to extend it, it will cost you $75 for another 3 months.. BUT my dad however have what they are an exemption visa where you can stay up to 3-5 years max.. and it will cost you $75.. that what my dad have said to me.. but you can check with the vietnamese embassy in san francisco or at Washington DC.. but i hope you the best...
There are two types of visa you can choose from. If you are traveling with at least 3 weeks notice, your travel agent can have a visa done for you by the time you board your plane. But if you are traveling short notice, you can get a landing visa. This means that the airport officials in VN will be notified and when you arrive with all the necessary paperworks (your travel agent will help you) they will hand over your visa upon arrival. Good luck.
Sorry I don't know about this in details, maybe you should ask someone who did this before. But I'm pretty sure Vietnamese people will welcome you to live here, doesn't matter you are from the U.S. or you are from anywhere in the world.

You'll have to check with the Vietnamese Embassy.
