I want to travel to San Francisco soon because I'd like to move there in the not so distant future, and would like some advice, or a website suggestion that you'd find helpful. When are the best times to visit without too many toursits? What are some places I should visit? Prospective neighborhoods to live? Fun things to do? Should I rent a car? How does SF usually work, basically. I wanna stay about a week, does that sound reasonable? Bring a friend? Anything else I should know?

People ask me when the tourist season is in San Francisco, and I say it began around 1957 and hasn't ended yet.
The city has several interesting neighborhoods. Tourists seem to want to hang out at Fishermen's Wharf, but it's fake, touristy, just tee-shirt shops and stuff. Chinatown is real! It has schlocky tourist shops but also some very beautiful and expensive stuff. However there are no good Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. Union Square is the shopping district. The Mission District is the international district with the good Mexican food.
There are a million things to see, it all depends on what you want to see. Great museums, bookstores, theaters, restaurants, views from hills and tall buildings, and that big red bridge everyone loves so much.
The city has good public transportation, and some neighborhoods aren't easy to park in, so if you're not going out of town (or far out of town) you don't need a car.
Most people don't live in the city itself but in the burbs. I think hotels are cheaper in the burbs also.
