I want to take pics of my rc engine, with my digital cammera. (automatically focuses) I tryed it, and put the shiny engine on some white paper.
I got a poor focus and everything looked white. What should i do to get better pictures?

try with no flash and also the white paper against the shiny engine will reflect a LOT of light so yea maybe try black paper. also, are you doing this outside? if so, dont take the picture around noon as to this is the time the sun is the brightest and will create the most light/shadow. good luck!
If it's out of focus you might be too close. Most cameras can't focus closer than a couple of feet away. You camera is likely several megapixels, so stand back further, take a clear picture, and crop. You'll still end up with a nice sized image, in focus.
Everything looking white, well it shouldn't. It could have been the focusing issue, but I'm not sure. Try it again. I would have said worst case would be the engine would be too dark, because the camera would see the bright white paper and underexpose it. Test on different colors.
