I received a traffic ticket that has 2 points. I ran a red light a few days ago . Do I go to traffic school before or after I pay my ticket? I live in New Jersey. I've been hearing that you pay your ticket then go to traffic school then I hear that you go to traffic school first. Please help thank you

Yes, you are correct. Following points are eligible to take the New Jersey Defensive Driving (Known as traffic school) ONLINE course.
1. Take this course once every 5 yrs to earn a point reduction.
2. You must also have at least 2 points on your driving record in order to be eligible. These could be recent points you've incurred from a traffic violation.
Found this information on http://www.idrivesafely.com/New-Jersey/howitworks.... page, one of the state approved traffic school course provider.
You go and pay the ticket first. Then you will go and attend traffic school. Once you complete the course, NJ will deduct the points from the ticket off your license.
It doesn't really matter. You can go to traffic school (defensive driving) now and turn your proof of completion in when you pay your ticket:
When will I get my point reduction?
Point reduction credits will be provided to students who successfully complete the defensive driving course after receipt of evidence of course completion by the Chief Administrator at the Motor Vehicle Commission in New Jersey. You must submit your completion certificate within 10 days of course completion. Your point reduction will occur once the state receives your certificate.
Would it not make more sense to call the Municipal Court instead of asking on YA?
I live in Paterson, NJ! :D
