sunday i was lying in bed with my dog. then i see something black crawling around. GROSS! it was small black, i could not see the legs, had something beige sticking out of its head that was tiny in comparison to the rest of the body. my dad smacked it very hard and it exploded in a tiny spray of alot of blood. its too big to be a normal flea so i think its a tick. plus my dog has a small bald spot on her hind leg that wasn't there on saturday and i think maybe the tick attached itself there and she bit it off along with her hair.
so its probably a tick right?
i think?
i live in new york, not country new york, like a subarb so it cant be a arizona soft tick or whatever. so yeah i think its a tick but i have heard that ticks dont squash easily but it was squashed anyway and my dad with powerful nut cracking hands.
TICK?

Yes a tick. It sounds like your dad took care of it well enough. Inspect the site that you think the tick was attached to. If it is healing (not red and inflamed) your dog should be fine. If it looks inflamed you need to get her checked to see if any part of the head was left in her leg when she pulled it off. Normally ticks don't squash easily; however, your tick had been attached to the dog long enough to become engorged. Sounds like it turned into a real mess. Next time just flush it.
Ticks. and their diseases. have been with us forever. Try not to worry, but if you have lots of money to spend run to a vet for all the testing you can get done to see if this isolated incident will cause a problem for your dog. Personally I would be glad it is off the dog, check your dog for ticks after you have been on nature walks or in high grass, and try to remove any ticks before they get a chance to eat. Just always get the head and better yet ,grab them before they attach to the skin.
i think of it relies upon on the type of tick. i've got seen shows from u . s . a . the place an animal may be lined via ticks and not die. They do of direction be afflicted by the blood loss and definately want medical care from a vet. in spite of the undeniable fact that, while the two one in all my dogs have been given ticks (i'm from Australia) it became very severe and the vet suggested they have been in straightforward terms an afternoon remote from death. They have been walking like they have been very very under the effect of alcohol and can have died if we did not handle on the vets. (i think of they have been stated as paralyis ticks??). the two way, do not attempt and eliminate the tick and seek for medical interest on your dogs.
Sounds like a tick. Be aware that it only takes one bite to spread tick borne diseases like Erlichia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lymes. Ticks are found all over the US.
It sounds like a tick. Especially if you found a little bald spot. I'm not sure where you would have gotten it in NY but if you were anywhere near water, that could do it!
