What would happen to somebody who just walked out of RAF basic training after a few days? If they just snuck out and said they didn't like it and weren't coming back. Surely it wouldn't be worth the time, effort and money for the RAF to chase the person up when they've only done a few days?
Update:It's not me mate, I'm in and done my time at Honington...Honington!
The person just hates in and I'd just like to be able to tell the person what would happen. I doubt the RAF Police would bother chasing it up, after all it's a lot of hassle to get somebody back who is just going to leave after 14 more days. I can imagine the stories in the paper. "Tax payers money is spent on charging young people who leave the RAF after a few days"

Unfortunately, the person would be committing a criminal offence of absence without leave and would be rounded up by the police. Like it or not, thems the rules. Service in HM Forces isn't a Country Club, you can't just walk out if it doesn't tickle your fancy anymore. You're sworn in and your pledge of allegiance is legally binding.
All they have to do is tell their instructor that they do not wish to be in the RAF any more and they can sign the paperwork & be out within 48hrs.
The RAF police will not chase after the person in question (as they have no powers outside the camp gates). A liason officer will probably be sent to speak to the person & they will have to return to the camp at some point to sign the paperwork anyways. If the person refuses then the police CAN drag him back to the camp & once he is there the powers at be may send him to cholchester for being AWOL then the person will get a dishonorable discharge which will harm future career prospects.
In other words, just tell this person to go through the correct channels & he/she will be fine. For the sake of waiting a day or two for all the paperwork to go through it will be better for them.
Hi,
For what it is worth........
I was in the mob for 15 yrs, and the first few weeks were dodgy.
But I decided to to stick to it & ended up as a Sqn Ldr.
Fine pension & lots of fun & experience
Some dissapeared when initially faced with "boot camp", and were never punished.
There was no point.
The RAF Regiment knew where they were, but the hounarable thing to do is to "buy yourself out"
Not just wander home after a few days !
If you or your freind (it is not clear), have walked away without officially resigning, it is an offence.
Go back, say "sorry" and crack on is my advice
Bob
you would be charged with being absent without leave
then collected by military police
taken back to camp
charged and most likely dismissed.
don't be a fool stay in the air force its just a bit of a shock to the
system right now.
there is not much in civie street not with a recession coming.
stay put and just get on with it.
If you walk out outside the period when you are allowed to do so, the service WILL come after you, whether it makes good tabloid "news" or not. You should know by now that the services are not forgiving of AWOL offences.
