Ok I have a 2001 hyundai tiburon, my transmission just went can anyone give me a estimate on buying a new transmission and having a mechanic put it in???
The shop technician at the Hyundai Dealer can tell you a lot about how the transmission fluid looks in the pan when he removes it to try servicing the filter and fluid. If you haven't followed the manufacturer's fluid flush maintenance schedule (every 30,000 miles), and have 90,000 miles on the car, then you've missed 3 required transmission services and can't take advantage of your 100,000 mile 10 year Hyundai power train warranty (see car owner's manual). However, I would still ask the dealer to honor the warranty and tell him that an independent garage serviced the transmission if that's the case. Of course he'll ask for the maintenance receipts. A new remanufactured transmission like the Hyundai dealer would install will cost about $3000 installed. Price out a comparable transmission on line at http://www.jasperengines.com/
Are you sure the transmission has failed completely???
you might be shocked at what a Fluid and Filter change can do for Transmission's...
But if not, you will have to do some homework, call around as many trans repair shops and note the prices for their labor and the trans,- new or rebuilt...
As per previous post, fluids and filter can do wonders.
Usually transmissions don't go caputes unless you hear a snap, bang, crackle and pop, type of idea. You may need a clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, spring, and a tranny oil change and filter.(If your tranny has a filter).
To do a tranny can vary in labour charge rate, but it takes about half a day to do (4 to 6 hours). The tranny itself can vary in price depending on where purchased by you or shop. But I believe for yours it might be 1,700 to 2,800, maybe more on a brand spanking new one.
Wish you put more into your question about what symptoms you had.
