Is it really dangerous? how can I practice at home to be better? I always hear about injuries because of rugby. I'm 5'3 and a half and I weigh about 130
Update:
I know alot of girls who are not butch and do it. I just wanna do it for fitness reasons..
It will certainly get you fit, and it is no more dangerous than any other sport that places serious demands on your body. More superficial stuff (minor cuts, bruises and scraps) perhaps, but in terms of major injuries no worse than basketball, and certainly less dangerous than American football. You do half to be careful if you play front row in the scrum, but special training and rules are in place to make that safer for young players.
Just get yourself fit preseason by doing some distance work and interval training, and then try it out to see if you like it.
I'm going to be playing for my third year. I have gotten common injuries cuts, scrapes normal stuff. Just work on running and try and do total body work outs and learn how to tackle properly because it can cause unnecessary injuries. From your weight you might be a prop or flank if you can run and tackle well or you might be a back. Your coach will tell you where they think you will do best. Just don't be afraid to get in there and pay attention. Hope that helped. Good luck :-)
Honestly, rugby is just as dangerous as any other sport. Just as many injuries. it is the best sport in the world. Once you play you fall in love with it. If you are looking to get in shape and have fun, It will be great for you!!!!
if youre doing it for fitness reasons youre in the wrong sport sweetie, even if your not in the pack you still are going to get beat up. our team has been having practices 3 times a week for two weeks now and already i have one broken rib && swollen ACL (i ripped it two years ago) and the rest of the members have pulled quads, wrist problems, and 1000s of bruises
dont get me wrong its a TON of fun && gets you babes =) but its deeper than fitness, ive played soccer && basketball all my life (track a couple of seasons) and rugby is by far my toughest compotition yet
