Hello,
I purchased a tiny tree/plant from Wal-Mart referred to as some sort of Ginseng. It looks very much like both ficus retusa and ficus microcarpa (little tree, grayish, roots above ground, dark green leaves.)
I was just wondering if anyone knows if it is poisonous to cats, at all.
Sincerely,
C

Ficus and ginseng are definitely NOT the same plant so you'll need to search both.

I bought a Ficus Ginseng from IKEA, probably very similar to the one you got. (This one: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/0023454... )
My cat started vomiting like crazy one day. She threw up 8 times in an hour and we couldn t figure out what was wrong with her. Then she went back to normal. A few days later she threw up a bunch again. Later that day I saw her jump up on my work desk and start rubbing her mouth against the plant and kinda chewing on it. About five minutes later she started howling and threw up all over the place. We made the connection that she had been eating that plant and it was making her sick. I got rid of the plant and she hasn t been sick since. In my searching on the internet it is definitely a toxic plant for cats. Not deadly, but it ll cause your cat to throw up a bunch and nobody wants that.
They do not live indoors. It might be going dormant if it is cold where you are..
