to what side should someone turn the upper bead of a navel-belly barbel in order to open it. Does someone need to slightly push the upper bead whilst turning?
If your having issues getting a good hold on it, get a cheap pair of well fitting latex gloves. They really help with the traction. Tons of people come in my shop everyday telling me they cant remove jewlery. yet when i put on a pair of gloves and give a good twist it opens right up.
Righty tighty lefty loosy. If the threads are on the bar correctly it should be that way. If it wont come off don't use plyers- it will morph and can ruin the bar. Use rubber gloves or have someone else try to get the ball off. If you still can't get it off go back to the shop. They can help you fix it. It's part of their job. Good luck with it!

Right will tighten
Left will loosen
